Limits and Important Notes

How Text Is Counted

After trimming the outside of the input, the tool treats each non-empty group separated by one or more whitespace characters as a word.

Characters include letters, numbers, punctuation, spaces, and line breaks. The no-spaces total removes every whitespace character. Sentence estimates split the text after periods, exclamation marks, or question marks.

Formula

Words = non-empty groups separated by whitespace

Example

The text “Tools save time.” contains 3 words, 16 characters including spaces, 14 characters without spaces, and 1 estimated sentence.

  • Hyphenated terms and contractions are normally counted as one whitespace-separated word.
  • Sentence detection is approximate and can misread abbreviations or repeated punctuation.
  • The interface does not currently calculate paragraphs or reading time.
