How Random Teams Are Created

The tool trims each line, removes empty rows, and shuffles the remaining entries with the Fisher–Yates method using the browser's standard random-number generator.

It assigns the shuffled names to teams in rotating order, which keeps the difference between the largest and smallest teams to at most one person for valid inputs.

Formula

Assigned team index = shuffled position mod number of teams

Example

With 10 names and 3 teams, round-robin assignment creates team sizes of 4, 3, and 3. Generate again to produce another shuffled arrangement.

  • The generator does not account for skill, role, preference, or prior assignments.
  • Duplicate names are treated as separate entries.
  • The randomness is suitable for casual grouping, not security-sensitive drawings.
