Circle Skirt Calculator

Enter waistline circumference, finished length, and fullness to get the waist and outer hem-line radii.

Draft Circle Skirt Radii

Enter the waistline measurement, finished skirt length, and fullness to get the waist and hem-line radii.

Your waist radius and outer hem-line radius will appear here.

How to Use Circle Skirt Calculator

1

Enter the Waistline

Use the intended stitching-line circumference in inches or centimetres.

2

Choose Length and Fullness

Enter finished length and select full, three-quarter, half, or quarter circle.

3

Add Construction Allowances

Transfer the calculated drafting lines, then add the seam, hem, closure, and fitting allowances required by your method.

Circle Skirt Calculator Features

  • Four skirt-fullness options
  • Unit-independent measurements
  • Live waist and hem-line radii
  • Pattern arc-angle context

Common Use Cases

Draft a made-to-measure skirt

Convert the intended waistline and finished length into basic geometric drafting lines.

Compare fullness options

See how full, three-quarter, half, and quarter circles change the required waist radius.

Limits and Important Notes

Result type: Exact calculation

Calculation Details

  • Choose the fraction of a complete circle used by the skirt.
  • Solve the arc-length equation for the waistline radius.
  • Add finished skirt length to obtain the outer hem-line radius.

Formula

Waist radius = waist circumference ÷ (2π × circle fraction); outer radius = waist radius + finished length

Rounding

Radii display to two decimals in the same unit as the inputs.

Default Assumptions

  • The entered waist is the desired stitching-line circumference.
  • Inputs use one consistent unit.
  • The skirt is drafted as a true circular sector without gathers or pleats.

Verified Example

Inputs: 30-inch waist, 24-inch finished length, full circle.

Calculation: 30 ÷ 2π = 4.7746-inch waist radius; 4.7746 + 24 = 28.7746-inch hem-line radius.

Result: Waist radius = 4.77 in; outer radius = 28.77 in before allowances.

  • Add waist seam allowance, hem allowance, closures, waistband construction, and fitting ease separately.
  • Bias stretch can change the finished hem and waist; make a test pattern and allow the garment to hang before hemming.
  • Fabric width, nap, print direction, panel seams, and cutting layout are not estimated.
